5 Questions To Ask Car Transport Companies Before Hiring Them

Car shipping process | Choosing an auto shipper

It's time! Time to look for a car transport company to haul your car. But how do you go about finding the best car transport company? It can be so confusing, which is all the more reason to know what questions to ask.

First, a few rules of thumb before starting your research. Remember that not all car transport companies are alike; some have extra charges, some are fly-by-night operations with no track record and others are genuinely great companies to work with.

Once you've done your pre-interview homework, here are the five most important questions to ask a car transport company:

  1. Do you offer a free no-obligation quote? You should never be charged up front before giving a company your business; charges for quotes are a big red flag.
  2. What is included in your quote? Don't let car transport companies get away with a vague quote; you need an itemized list of all charges up front, before you sign on the dotted line. Make sure coverage, pick-up and drop-off fees are spelled out, along with any mid-transport charges. And the quote should include where the car will be dropped off, so there are no surprises when you get to your destination.
  3. Why are you the best option? Every car transport company worth their salt should be able to tell you exactly why they are different from the rest; if the salesperson is vague, back away.
  4. Can I specify the pick-up and drop-off times? You're paying, so you should be able to specify pick up and drop off arrangements.
  5. What vehicle protection services do you offer? Make sure your car is fully covered under the car transport company's insurance; some companies will tell you that you're covered, when really, they're talking about your personal auto insurance coverage, rather than receiving extra coverage under the company's liability policy. Some car transport companies do offer extra coverage, but make sure you get it in writing.

Most car transport companies are reliable, professional and will get your car where it needs to go without extra hassle to you. But the only way to know the wolf in sheep's clothing is to ask the right questions, get the answers in writing and do your research ahead of time.

No issues to report, service was dependable and reliable. Our car was available before the scheduled date! Very much appreciated!
